My ultimate goal is to make a pair of slouchy leggings with a waistband that comfortably cover most of my legs, but have an open crotch, something like a pair of slouchy, fitted chaps. I absolutely hate that sagging crotch thing that happens with tights, so I’ve decided to avoid it by simply leaving the irritating part out.
I’ve never made any kind of tights or leggings before, and I’ve only knitted one pair of tube socks, so I decided to start by making a pair of leglets. They’re somewhat stretched out because I’ve been wearing them. (Yes, this is the same pair pictured above…the colors look really different in sunlight than they did under camera flash.)

I made the leglets from this Morehouse pattern. I’m relatively pleased with them, though I think they might work better with a stretchier yarn. I used some variegated Red Heart yarn that I had left over from a hat project. There’s one thing I don’t like about them. If I wear short socks under them, I frequently get a gap between the sock and the leglet which exposes my skin. That kinda defeats the point of the leglets.
I’m working on a new pair with extended ribbing on the bottom that will form a sort of half-sock. Those should stay down and in place better.
