This scarf was roughly inspired by Brooklyn Tweed’s Scholar Collar.
We decided to have “Christmas made by hand” this year (Christmas 2008), so we made all of the gifts exchanged within our family. I knew that my husband really wanted a scarf, so I decided to see what I could make with yarn I already had on hand. Unfortunately, I only had one skein of this gray wool, so I knitted it up in a really fast garter stitch on big needles (the needles I bought to make Lyra’s hood last year).
It wasn’t long enough to wrap or tie, so I added some buttons. Luckily for me, the loops in the scarf are large enough that they simply slide over the buttons, so he can wear the scarf snug or loose depending on his mood and I didn’t have to worry about button holes.
He loves it, it looks good, and he’s still going to get the Dr. Who-ish type scarf he really wanted (a little more than halfway done).
