You're no doubt wondering just what a Haiku Showdown is. Well, it's a series of competitive matches in which poets compete for the best three out of five haiku, as judged by mostly sober audience members selected from among the patrons.
Although most participants prepare, at least a little bit, no small amount of the Haiku is written on the spot.
